DAUSA Response Teams are the 1st in after a major hurricane, flood or tornado. At that stage most infrastructure is damaged or gone. Teams will sleep in their trucks or tents after working 14-hours chainsawing, muck & gutting a house & rescuing people with our rescue boat. A trailer that can both house equipment, our ATVs, and allow the team to have bunks, a small kitchen & bathroom, serve as a base of operations, and will allow them to be more effective and new teams a place to rotate into!
Response teams are self sufficient when deployed as not to drain resources of the affected area. Sleeping in trucks, tents or staying over a hour away from the disaster is common. This affects their time in the area and and effects capabilities.
After working 12 to 14 hours days doing hard work having a base of operation with a small kitchen to cook hot food, actual bunks, toilet facilities, and still have a place to store equipment will make the team more efficient, recovery time shortened, and able to stay in the affected area longer.
Months after a disaster housing of volunteers is still a major problem. The trailer can be left in place and teams rotate into the base of operations with no time lost. We will look for a good used trailer thus the project in only 20k not 40+k for a new trailer. The trailer will be an asset that can be used to help communities recovery for years to come.
