The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is facing a rapidly escalating Ebola outbreak-one of the world's deadliest infectious diseases-that is already placing immense strain on vulnerable communities and the country's fragile health system. As of May 15, there have been 246 suspected cases and at least 65 deaths recorded. Early reports indicate cross-border spread into Uganda, with concern that it could soon spread to additional countries like Rwanda and South Sudan.

Early reports indicate cross-border spread into Uganda, with concern that it could soon spread to additional countries like Rwanda and South Sudan. The outbreak has prompted urgent international response measures to contain further spread.
Drawing on prior Ebola response experience, we are focusing on interventions that are critical to breaking transmission chains: Establishing screening and referral units to rapidly identify suspected cases, triage patients safely and minimize transmission in health facilities and communities Operating Ebola Treatment Units to provide isolation, clinical care and supportive treatment for confirmed cases Supporting infection prevention and control measures Strengthening community outreach
Given the challenges in accessing remote and conflict-affected areas, a timely and coordinated response will be essential to contain the outbreak and protect vulnerable populations. We are closely coordinating with public health authorities and international partners and will continue to adapt our response as the situation evolves.
