Over 3000 children daily are being helped out of poverty through the schools, homes & care that Hands Around the World's partner projects in Kenya, Zambia, Benin, Rwanda & India provide. We are in the process of creating an emergency strategy to combat the urgent issues facing our projects as a result of Covid-19. This will allow HATW to continue to make a long-lasting difference in the young lives of those we support, whilst maximising the impact of available funding and minimising overheads.
The Covid-19 pandemic presents an unprecedented challenge to the work of HATW's partner projects in Africa & India. Rising food costs, school closures and a continuing lack of information regarding the scale of the pandemic, are all having a significant impact on already vulnerable communities. Hunger has intensified due to a loss of income at home and/or the loss of a meal at school. Vital pastoral care is also a challenge during temporary closures of schools/centres. Our help is needed!
Your donation will enable HATW to help our partners overseas to continue to offer care, education, protection and food to the 3000+ children they support. Protection includes: supplies of masks, soap, sanitiser, cleaning equipment & isolation room beds. The provision of food includes school lunches, small-scale food distribution & some farming initiatives. Project needs differ hugely and we are in close contact with all our project managers to ensure that funds are being directed as most needed.
HATW is committed to working 'deeper rather than wider' meaning that over the 26 years of being established we have developed close and committed in-country partnerships to ensure the communities we work with can access key life provisions; and that the children and young people are well supported to maximise the opportunities available to them through care, nurturing & education. Long-term planning with all projects to ensure eventual self-sustainability is also key to our work & support.
