As the weather has turned from chilly to warm, Action For Autism packed the six months with new experience and old and much learning for all.
A coding camp in collaboration with Hashhackcode had neurodivergent learners enthusiastically enhancing cognitive and creative coding skills.Two of our software testing trainees cleared the global certification ‘Certified TesterFoundation Level Certification’ by the International Software Testing Qualifications Board.This Diwali season, our vocational services products hit an all- time high in sales at 17 stalls set up in different locations.
With the magic of visuals our children have learnt to dribble a ball through hurdles at a required pace so as to complete within a specified time limit.Road Safety Week was marked by autistic interns from our vocational centreconducting a session on the do’s and don’ts of road safety for Open Door students.
Sports Day, Christmas Party, Art Carnival and Annual Day were great successes with enthusiastic participation of parents and supporters.The looked-forward-to music sessions now have a synthesizer much to everyone’sexcitement.
Physiotherapy was added to the medical services for the neighbouring communitiesavailable at Ananda Assisted Living.More than a hundred staff members of AtkinsRealis supported Action for Autism and participated in the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon 2024
AFA special educators conducted validation of NIPUN (National Initiative for Proficiencyin Reading with Understanding and Numeracy) Bharat Learning Outcomes for Children with Disabilities under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan
AFA professionals presented on ‘Autism from within: Perspectives of Autistic Adults in India’ at the Second International Conference on Comprehensive Education (ICCE-24) organised by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysuru Campus
Our head of Parent Child Training Program featured on a panel discussion on Sansad TV on deepening understanding of the challenges faced by autistic individuals and their families
AFA held an online panel discussion by passionate neurodivergent climate advocates on, "Reclaiming the Narrative: Neurodivergent Voices in Climate Action” from the neurodivergent community.
Our Founder Director Merry Barua delivered the keynote address at the India Neurodiversity Summit at Christ University, Bangalore.Merry serves on the expert consultation group set up by Children And Families Together India bringing together experts and representative organizations from both care reform and disability rights.
Merry also consulted at the National Annual Stakeholders Consultation on ‘Protectingthe Rights of Children Living with Disability (focus on CiCL and CNCP) and Intersectionality of Disabilities under the aegis of the Juvenile Justice Committee of the Supreme court and in collaboration with UNICEF India.
AFA members served on several committees including
Skills Council for Persons with Disability,Expert Committee to develop a Curriculum Framework and Suggestive Syllabi for a 4-year Integrated Arts Education Program by National Council for Teacher Education.
Committee to advocate for and identify posts for autistic applicants in Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare under the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare,
Committee reviewing the norms and general guidelines of continuing Rehabilitation Education (CRE) - Workshops / conference / Seminar through online mode by Rehabilitation Council of India
