Work in Puerto Rico continues, and we have very exciting news about our Yabucoa program: we have extended! AHAH will remain in Puerto Rico until March of next year. For us, this is an opportunity to do even more for Puerto Rico and the communities that have felt so left behind in the wake of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. We are quickly approaching the two-year anniversary of both storms, and we are honored to remain on the island into the new year.
As mentioned in our last update, our teams are always eager to go above and beyond the work they do every day in the field by seeking out community-based work they could do as well. In Puerto Rico, much of that focus has been on baseball fields! As a popular gathering space, these fields have become highly requested locations for repair and revitalization. Our teams have worked on three already, and just this month broke ground on Limones Baseball field in Yabucoa! These projects are a really fun way to rally the community, and complete a project that will impact the larger community for years to come.
The heat is an ongoing challenge for the Yabucoa team, but they continue to find creative ways to keep cool and carry on. To date, our teams have repaired 356 damaged roofs and worked on a total of 452 sites. Every day our field teams see that there are so many that still need our help, and we are eager to continue reaching as many families as we can. Thanks for sticking with us!
Happy summer from All Hands and Hearts
