Challenge

Filipino communities in Metro Manila face repeated and compounding climate hazards, including Typhoon Gaemi and the seasonal southwest monsoon (habagat), which have caused heavy rains, flooding, and landslides. These events have displaced over 600,000 people and caused multiple deaths. This project will strengthen the resilience of more than 3,000 families, supporting recovery while building their capacity to withstand future complex disasters.

Solution

CDP will support over 3,000 families affected by flooding and compounding climate hazards with nutritious meals as they recover and return home. Local humanitarian actors and caregivers will receive training in mental health and psychosocial support so they can provide these services to their communities. Communities will also receive microgrants, enabling them to design and implement context-specific solutions that strengthen their resilience to future complex disasters.

Long-Term Impact

The project will address the immediate needs of communities for food and well-being while building long-term capacity in mental health and psychosocial support to strengthen community resilience. By providing community-managed funding for locally-led responses, the project empowers communities to collaborate, take initiative, and build mutual trust, enhancing their ability to withstand future complex hazards and reduce vulnerabilities.
