The Shelter - 2025 Report provides an overview of the residential support services offered by Ajuda de Mãe, which manages a total capacity of 49 vacancies across three distinct units. The units are staffed by 21 employees, including technicians and direct-acting helpers.
Shelter Units and Capacity
Temporary Shelter for Adult Pregnant Women (R1): 17 vacancies.
Temporary Shelter for Pregnant Adolescents (R2): 12 vacancies.
Casa João Paulo II (R3): A foster home for adolescent mothers with 20 vacancies.
2025 General Data
Requests and Admissions: The institution received 73 reception requests and recorded 18 admissions throughout the year.
Population Served: A total of 39 hosts were accommodated across the different units.
Departures: There were 18 departures, four of which were due to non-compliance with internal regulations (RI).
Profile of Residents
Adult Unit: Residents range from 19 to 42 years old, typically unemployed or lacking professional experience, and predominantly residing in the Lisbon and Setúbal districts.
Adolescent Units: Residents range from 13 to 23 years old, many of whom are students. These young women often face family conflict or absence and are subject to official protection processes for mothers and children.
Key Challenges
Intervention Barriers: Challenges include language barriers among immigrant populations, a lack of professional experience among adults, and mental health or cognitive difficulties.
Structural Issues: There is often a mismatch between community service expectations and the actual resources of life support centers, as well as prolonged stays due to a lack of external housing responses.
