Many puppies still need homes!

By Sally Andersen | Founder and Chairperson

This is a typical scenario:  family come to meet the puppies with the parents reminding the children that they are only there to look and are not taking anyone home today.   Kids beg and plead but the parents are adamant.  Family leave with puppy.

In today's case to be fair, the family didn't adopt from Whiskers N Paws but went to Tai Po to look at young adults rather than puppies, but in the end it was Cocoa, one of the "meat" litter who was chosen, and only for a trial to see how things work out but so far it's going well.

Another one of the "meat" puppies, the litter who had been rescued from becoming someone's Chinese New Year celebratory dinner, was today's lucky Whiskers N Paws puppy, while another two from the same family were sent up to Tai Po at the end of the afternoon.  Sidney was sent because he is a big boy and I thought he would be happier up there, and Zelda because she's a sweet-but-mad girl who loves people and company in general, and I can't provide much of either on Lamma.  Zelda is really a special character, as well as being smart, funny and full of life.  Meet her at Tai Po if you're looking for a puppy who will make you laugh, and keep you fit as she has the energy of a dynamo.

Jimmy Tsang was the volunteer photographer today and you can see the full set here  Puppy Adoption Day 4 March 2018 — at Whiskers N Paws
Just to remind you, we have another Saturday Puppy Afternoon at Heal this weekend, 1pm to 4pm, as well as the regular Sunday session at Whiskers N Paws, 2pm to 5pm.  Any of the puppies are available to meet by arrangement during the week too so just let Cindy know which ones (foster@hongkongdogrescue.com).

I'm really hoping someone can take Monty home, as his friend and puppy pal Teddy found a foster home today and Monty is the only one left.  He's a lovely boy, very sweet and happy, so maybe there's a family out there who would be able to offer him somewhere to stay, even temporarily if not for ever?  Please let Cindy know if you can help.

I was so happy to get confirmation of schnauzer Nuggie's adoption after a short trial, as he was one of a group from a terrible breeder and came to us with a large chunk of his top lip cut away.  Two other schnauzers from the same group, Gunner and Frodo,  had had their eyelids cut off (one each), presumably as a home remedy for entropian, but we had to have the eyes removed.  Amazingly all three are very sweet dogs who love human attention and cuddles, which just shows a dog's capacity for letting the past go.

Another two Tai Po dogs left the Homing Centre together for a week's trial, so I have my fingers crossed and hopes high that we won't be seeing Timmy and Juno coming back.
