PATA Quarterly Report February 2026

PATA Quarterly Report

February 2026

Reporting Period: Oct  25 - Dec 25.

Introduction

Over the past three months, PATA has continued its critical work rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming vulnerable street dogs in Costa Rica. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we have provided medical care, shelter, and love to numerous dogs in desperate need. Despite challenges, we celebrate the lives saved and the progress made. Here’s an update on our work.

New Rescues

We have taken in several new dogs facing extreme hardship:

  • Bruno-a young boxer mix that had been abused and was fearful of men and other dogs
  • Tyson- found on the side of the road severely injured after being hit by a car
  • Faith- also severely injured after being hit by a car
  • Duke-an older dog surrendered by his owner
  • Santi and Snoopy-bonded pair found wandering the streets and malnourished.
  • Sofi, Kiki, Coco-young puppies abandoned on roadside
  • Jacquie- found living on the streets of  a nearby village.
  • Carolina, Blondie, Dina, Milli-young females found wandering the streets and malnourished
  • Kira and Sadie-mother and daughter left tied to trees when their family moved away
  • Teo--young puppy found wandering the streets and emaciated

Adoptions & Fosters

We are thrilled to report that several of our rescued dogs have found loving homes:

Adopted:
Harley, Indie,Lola, Rio, Sasha, Max, Rusty, Duke, Sofi, Cookie, Luna, Rocco, Blondie

Fostered:
Dolly, Dina and Kira  have gone into foster care, receiving the love and attention they  need while awaiting their forever homes.

Medical Care & Veterinary Services

Our commitment to medical care remains unwavering. We provided veterinary attention to several dogs, including:

  • Dolly-Treated for bladder stones
  • Coco – Treated for Ehrlichiosis and anemia.
  • Dina– Treated for Ehrlichiosis and anemia.
  • Faith and Tyson –Emergency surgery for leg injuries
  • Henrietta-Emergency corrective surgery

Expenses & Financial Report

With your generous support, we have managed to cover the following essential expenses:

  • Veterinary Services: $4700
  • Medications: $710
  • Food: $876
  • Shelter Rent: $2,055
  • Electricity: $290
  • Fuel & Transport: $725

Total Number of Dogs in Our Care: 21

Challenges & Emergencies

While we have made significant strides, we have faced serious challenges, including:

  • Tyson’s  Emergency Surgery:  Tyson was hit by a car and survived four days alone on the side of a rural road before being rescued. His wounds were so severe that he went into emergency surgery.  Tyson is a fighter and survived but has permanent damage to one leg.
  • Faith’s Emergency Surgery: Faith was hit by a car and had severe damage to her lower body and legs. She underwent emergency surgery and survived. She will need future surgeries to help her recover.
  • Henrietta’s Passing: Henrietta became sick and after x-rays and an ultrasound it was determined that she had sustained massive injuries as a puppy, prior to being rescued, and her body had attempted to heal itself. All of her abdominal organs had migrated to her chest, one lung had collapsed and she had a severe hernia. She underwent emergency corrective surgery. Henrietta survived the surgery but unfortunately passed away during the night. She was deeply loved by all of the volunteers and is greatly missed.

Positive Highlights

Despite the hardships, there have been bright spots:

  • Volunteer Support: We welcomed 12 dedicated volunteers who lived in our accommodation and assisted with dog care, socialization, and administrative work.
  • Successful Adoptions: 13 dogs have found loving homes both locally and internationally, ensuring a better future for them.

Looking Ahead

As we move forward, we remain committed to our mission of rescuing and rehabilitating street dogs. However, we need your support to cover ongoing medical expenses, food, shelter, and transport.

How You Can Help:

PATA is looking for a permanent refuge. Until now, PATA has had to rent properties to house our rescues. We are currently raising funds to purchase land so that we can build the facilities needed to provide for all of our rescues. And of course, funding is always needed to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome the neglected animals of Samara and surrounding villages.  Please share our mission with any friends or family that would be interested in helping.

Thank You

We are incredibly grateful for our donors, volunteers, and supporters who make our work possible. Your kindness and generosity ensure that PATA can continue providing lifesaving care to dogs in desperate situations. Thank you for being part of the PATA family and for helping us give abandoned dogs a chance at a better life.

With gratitude,
The PATA Team
