In Nigeria, dog meat consumption thrives in Akwa Ibom, Ondo, and Plateau states, where thousands of dogs face brutal slaughter. Many are strays or stolen pets, transported in cruel conditions. This project rescues dogs from slaughterhouses or buys them directly from traders, ending their suffering. We provide urgent veterinary care, rehabilitation, and re-home survivors through adoption campaigns. Concurrently, we educate communities on animal welfare and ethical alternatives to reduce demand.
In Nigeria's dog meat hotspots-Ondo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Plateau, and Calabar-stray and stolen dogs endure brutal slaughter for human consumption. Many are transported in cramped, inhumane conditions, beaten, or burned alive in slaughterhouses. Stolen pets break family hearts, while unchecked cruelty perpetuates a cycle of violence. No animal welfare laws protect them, and cultural demand fuels this trade. Without intervention, thousands more will suffer unimaginable pain.
This project rescues dogs from slaughterhouses and traders in Ondo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Plateau, and Calabar, providing urgent veterinary care and rehabilitation. Survivors are rehomed through adoption drives, giving them safe, loving homes. We educate communities on animal welfare and the consequences of the meat trade, reducing demand and preventing stolen pets.
By rescuing dogs, educating communities, and rehoming survivors, this project breaks the pattern of cruelty in Nigeria's dog meat trade. Over time, reduced demand lowers slaughter rates, while adoption campaigns prove animals deserve love, not brutality. Educated communities reject stolen pets and inhumane practices, pressuring leaders to enact animal welfare laws. Families reunited with rescued pets restore trust, and compassion replaces violence.
