Over 8,000 children in Karamoja, Uganda are facing an emergency hunger crisis, leaving them severely malnourished, out of school, and at risk of lifelong health complications. The Rescue Children from Hunger in Karamoja project provides immediate relief through nutritious meals while building longterm resilience by empowering families and communities to sustain food security-saving lives today and creating hope for tomorrow.
In Karamoja, over 8,000 children face an urgent hunger crisis, with 58% in some villages going days without food. Each year, more than 1,000 severely malnourished children are referred to Moroto Hospital, and this year's situation has worsened dramatically. Families are struggling to survive, and children are most at risk. This project will provide immediate meals, reduce malnutrition, and give vulnerable households hope for recovery and stability.
This project will solve Karamoja's hunger crisis by providing immediate meals to over 8,000 children, ensuring they don't go days without food. It will reduce severe malnutrition, which sends more than 1,000 children to Moroto Hospital each year, by offering consistent nutrition support. Beyond emergency feeding, the project builds resilience by stabilizing households, improving child health, and giving families hope for recovery and longterm stability.
The project's longterm impact will be transformative for Karamoja. By providing immediate meals to over 8,000 children, it reduces severe malnutrition and prevents hospital referrals. As nutrition stabilizes, children regain health, attend school, and thrive. Families gain resilience, breaking cycles of hunger and poverty. Over time, this builds stronger households, healthier communities, and a foundation for sustainable development across the region.
