Hundreds of cats come through our rescue each year and most find their new home within 3 months. Some are older cats and it may take four times longer for them to be adopted than the younger cats and kittens. Since November is Adopt-a-Senior-Pet Month, we wanted to tell you the rescue stories of some of our senior cats.
Meet 8 year old Carson, a typical sassy calico. She spent 10 months with various fosters at New Beginnings Cat Rescue, and also spent time at the adoption center. In September of 2013 she became very ill with acute hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease).. All the instability in her life caused her to become depressed and she refused to eat. The vet surgically inserted a feeding tube into her esophagus. Her sassiness prevailed and she got better. This past October, a year after almost dying, Carson was adopted into a loving home.
Next, we have Mikey & Newton, these 5 year old black and white Tuxedo brothers were both rescued from being euthanized, coming from a hoarder situation. Both cats tested positive for FIV and both had to have full mouth extractions, leaving each with only 2 teeth. These handsome boys are both happy and playful and are ready to be adopted into their forever home.
Next there is 7 year old Tess, a beautiful gray and white Persian mix who beat the odds thanks to receiving the right treatment for hepatic lipidosis. A healthy Tess is now ready to be adopted.
Last but not least is 6 year old Chrystal, a beautiful gray and white Russian Blue mix. She was rescued from a local kill shelter and is now looking to find a wonderful home with a loving family.
Thank you for supporting our project on Global Giving. Without your support, I shudder to think where these precious senior cats would be today. Thankfully, they will enjoy the rest of their 9 lives feeling full, warm and loved.
