Rescue cats from being euthanized at local shelter

Andy is a 1 ½ year old male Ragdoll that showed up out of the blue at a Good Samaritan's house. It was quickly noticed that Andy had a very severe limp in his rear leg.  After being x-rayed we learned Andy had a broken pelvis and a dislocated hip, OUCH!  Our best guess is that he was hit by a car.  Despite being very painful, this handsome boy never growled or hissed at being handled.  He underwent a femoral head ostectomy (FHO), a surgical procedure that separates the femur from the head and neck. FHO surgery is performed to alleviate pain. It is a salvage procedure, reserved for conditions where pain cannot be alleviated any other way. It is often performed in cases of trauma where the head of the femur is badly broken or severed. Andy had his surgery in mid-March and is well on his way to recovery. Although he will require several more weeks of limited mobility, we believe Andy will be making a full recovery and will soon be jumping up to sit in some lucky owner's lap.  For now, he settles for letting you sit down on the floor and crawling into your lap, or leaning up against you.  He is a remarkable boy that is thankful to have only used up one of his 9 lives.
