Mr. Bojangles

By Sarah Fleming | NBCR Foster

Day of Rescue
Day of Rescue
New Beginnings Cat Rescue (NBCR) rescued Mr. Bojangles in December 2023. Mr. Bojangles had been living outside for approximately six years. He was a hardened tomcat, with scars on his body. The most pressing issue was a gaping wound on his left leg. The wound had been there for years, according to the neighbor who finally called a local vet office to see if they could help him. Mr. Bojangles sat in a crate at the vet for three long months. He was not happy to be there. He hissed and spat – he was not very social! They tried various medications, sprays and ointments. Nothing worked to heal the wound. The doctor said that he would have to have his leg amputated. It was then that NBCR picked him up.

Mr. Bojangles was scared at first, but he quickly became one of the New Beginnings’ Foster’s favorite cats. They began trying everything the vet had not done, plus re-trying everything the vet HAD done. They were also able to make an appointment with a dermatologist, hoping that more could be done to avoid amputation.

Mr. Bojangles’ first appointment went well, and everyone was hopeful that the prescribed program from the dermatologist would work. It did not. While the wound looked a little smaller, it was still open. At the second appointment he was prescribed something different, a last-ditch effort to save his leg. These medications worked! His wound healed and he was able to keep his leg! Mr. Bojangles also received allergy testing. He is currently receiving allergy shots so that this will never happen to him again.

Mr. Bojangles has not only been good with his foster family, but he has also been a grandpa to thirteen foster kittens! He has been a helpful influence: calming, grooming, snuggling, and playing with the babies. He has been best friends with every cat to come through his house. He helps get them ready for a swift adoption.

Rescuing cats always costs money, for which NBCR relies on donations.  Typically, we spay/neuter, vaccinate, combo test, and provide medications when needed. Mr. Bojangles has required more than the average rescue. He required specialist visits, prescription food, and lots of medicine.  His vet bills have been very expensive. We are so grateful for and appreciate any donations that can go toward New Beginnings Cat Rescue.
