Since the beginning of June, the local animal shelters have been overwhelmed with homeless cats and kittens. They send out daily requests for help, and one particular cat family touched the heart of our rescue, New Beginnings Cat Rescue. We know the shelters have limited space and resources, and they cannot keep cats for long because the shelters fill up so quickly. This particular shelter had a mom and some sick little kittens in the cage with her. No cat rescues are known to pull from this tiny shelter, and they were completely full. If more cats came in and no cats were pulled out, the shelter would have to start euthanizing. To know these little kittens and beautiful cats were going to be put to sleep was unthinkable....New Beginnings to the rescue!! One of our fosters went to the shelter envisioning to rescue 2 kittens, but instead she left with five!! But what was left behind was Gigi, the mom. What we learned later about Gigi was that those kittens in her cage were not her kittens - her kittens had all been adopted! Gigi was their surrogate mom!! She took each of those kittens in, one by one, none from the same litter, and nursed them and took care of them like her own. Without a second thought, a volunteer from New Beginnings Cat Rescue hurried back to the shelter and rescued Gigi. Those kittens are all weaned and Gigi is now a kitten herself, playing and being silly and sweet! With your financial support we are able to respond to calls for help and save many precious cats, like Gigi and "her" 5 kittens. Thank you!!
