Thanks to your continued support, Ethical Vegan is helping people create new livelihoods while making a meaningful difference for animals and their communities.
Plenty Food has continued to regularly support Ethical Vegan by providing seeds for Brenda and her team to reach communities throughout the Mbale area. Through their outreach, they promote plant-based foods, encourage people to move away from meat-based livelihoods, and help create more compassionate employment opportunities.
Your support is already producing tangible results. Brenda has provided seeds to former slaughterhouse workers who have transitioned into farming. One group is now growing maize that will help provide food for approximately 2,000 students.
It is now harvest time, and other former slaughterhouse workers and meat sellers are harvesting their first crops. They are planning to come together to establish a local produce market, creating new income opportunities while reducing dependence on industries that harm animals.
The work has not been without challenges. During one recent field mission, Brenda and her team encountered hostility from members of the community, and violence broke out. Their motorcycle, which is essential for transportation during outreach missions, was damaged, along with Brenda’s phone and some supporting documents. Despite this setback, the team remains determined to continue their work.
Every seed planted represents more than food—it represents a chance for a new beginning. Former slaughterhouse workers and meat sellers are developing new skills, creating alternative livelihoods, growing food, and choosing a more compassionate future.
