Justice for survivors

By Monica Kapali | Child Reintegration Officer

Rescue of a child
Rescue of a child

Justice Restored Sudesha (name changed) was abandoned by her parents at an early age. Alcohol and drugs ended both of her parents in the street. They make their living out of begging. When Sudesha was 13 years old she was raped by her neighbour. The perpetrator took advantage of Sudesha's parents. It was soon intervened by the police and she was rescued and referred to Bethany Vision Nepal's safe house in Kathmandu. The perpetrator was arrested and case filed at District Court in Jhapa district of Eastern Nepal. After a year, the perpetrator is imprisoned for 16 years, justice to Sudesha! But the story of Sudesha did not end here. She had terrible childhood suffering of trauma, abuse, abandonment, poverty, parentless ness etc. Her greatest suffering was the lack of love and belonging. She went through several trauma counselling and therapies in a safe home. Eventually her life changed. She is now looking much better. She is studying in grade 6 and her goal is to become a lawyer - to fight for justice for survivors like herself.

In the last quarter, 7 new rescued were transferred to the shelter home. They were the survivors of sex trafficking from rural Nepal to Kathmandu.

Bethany Vision operates a shelter home to provide transitional care including food, accomodation, trauma counselling, education and family assessement. We shifted to a new home with 20 beds and trauma friendly care and facilities. We continue our partnership with Nepal Child Rights Council, Anit Human Trafficking Bureau and other government agencies for rescue and restotraiotn of survivors.
