During this quarter (April–June 2025), our team conducted a series of meaningful activities that demonstrate the resilience and potential of our biogas initiative in Tanzania. Our primary focus was visiting beneficiaries to document their success stories and assess challenges. Most users remain satisfied with their biodigesters, though a few reported issues with aging cooking stoves. We have pledged to replace them, ensuring continued satisfaction and performance—especially since well-maintained biodigesters can last up to 50 years.
A major milestone was the retrofitting of an old biogas system in Njiro, Arusha, under the technical supervision of visiting Korean researchers. This system, originally producing 0.5 cubic meters of biogas per day, was upgraded to deliver 2 cubic meters daily—a remarkable 200% increase for a 9m³ digester! This breakthrough opens the door to similar retrofitting for over 200 households whose systems are over a decade old.
The Korean professors also evaluated raw materials and system conditions, offering positive feedback and paving the way for future collaboration. You can watch highlights from their visit here: https://youtu.be/H0iqWhdrHNo.
We are truly grateful for your continued support since 2013, which has enabled us to reach over 1,200 direct beneficiaries. If you’re visiting Tanzania soon, I’d be honored to offer a free tour of our biogas sites. For reports or further details, feel free to contact me directly at hilonga@gmail.com.
Together, we are scaling sustainable energy—one household at a time.
