Summary

Every single day in Bangladesh, nearly 50 families lose a child to drowning (18268 deaths annually) - a heartbreaking tragedy that happens silently and far too often. Yet these deaths are preventable. Through the "Rescue 50 children drowning daily in Bangladesh" initiative, your donation can help save young lives by equipping women and caregivers with lifesaving first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills, supporting community childcare centers and raising cognition skills.

Challenge

In rural Bangladesh, drowning is a daily and devastating reality for families living near open water. Studies in rural areas indicate that 85% of drowning incidents occur in domestic ponds within 20 metres of homes, frequently during the brief moments when mothers are occupied with household tasks. This crisis is not abstract - it is lived every day by mothers like Amina: "My little angel, Sabbir, was drowned at 1 pm. I was just cooking and sweeping. We have no childcare centres here." - Amina,

Solution

This fund deploys a three-pillar approach designed to prevent drowning and promote safer childhoods in Bangladesh: (1) establishing community childcare centres where 2-to-4-year-old children can learn and play while mothers work, (2) training caregivers in CPR and first aid so they can respond during emergencies, and (3) educating the community to disprove harmful myths and improve supervision through local campaigns.

Long-Term Impact

By elevating childcare, expanding community knowledge, and boosting emergency response capabilities, we aim to cut annual child drowning deaths from 18,268 by half by 2035. Over the long term, the fund will transform preventable loss into enduring protection-alleviating maternal trauma, bolstering community resilience, and empowering children to grow, learn, and thrive.
