Trivandrum Don Bosco Veedu has been providing remedial education to underprivileged children in slums. Lack of proper education in schools and learning lags make it difficult for children to study well. Caretakers at home too will not be able to help the children with their studies. Remedial education aims to bridge learning gaps and help children reach their full potential.
Children attend regularly in the classes provided daily and participate in weekly evaluation tests to track their progress. They also have recreational activities and game sessions during the weekends, which keeps them motivated to attend classes regularly.
Sixty percent of the children attending the classes lack a basic foundation in the subjects they are studying in school. This initially made it difficult to help them understand the topics they had to study at school. Later on, when time was carefully managed, the team was able to spare some time each day to teach basic literacy to the children. This helped them overcome their hatred and anxiety towards studies.
