Religion News Foundation works tirelessly to spread religious literacy and, through its subsidiary, Religion News Service, support religion journalism. In a world rife with misunderstanding, RNF and RNS provide accurate, detailed reporting and projects that help spread mutual understanding. Support for Religion News Foundation goes to promoting religious literacy through projects like the Beliefs and Re-Sight Islam podcasts, and supporting the work of religion journalists around the globe.
We live in a time period of rising nationalism and xenophobia. Hate crimes, particularly those based on religious identity, are on the rise. On top of this, there is widespread misunderstanding about the realities of many religions and religious groups. This lack of clarity is reflected in most media outlets, where religion is often covered poorly, if at all. The world is in desperate need of nuanced, expert religion reporting, as well as detailed and useful information about religion.
RNF and RNS work in tandem to accomplish the goals of promoting religious literacy and supporting religion journalism. They do this by not only supporting excellent religion journalism in-house, through print editorial work and podcasts, but also by providing training, workshops and resources for outside journalists so that they may cover religion better.
The ultimate goal of RNF is to spread peace and understanding through the dissemination of objective, accurate and useful information about religion and religion groups, both into the journalism field and into the wider public. Support for our Religious Literacy Project helps accomplish this, as funding will go to supporting our new podcasts, our excellent, award-winning journalism staff, and our charitable and educational Foundation.
