Funds sent by RED International in to Northern Iraq in February were already making a difference on the ground by the end of March 2015.
Our partners were able to purchase and distribute 5,000 kg of vegetables and fruit to approximately 500 families of internally displaced people living in a village in the region. Each family received 10 kg of produce. They received 2 kg of apples, 2 kg of Tomatoes, 2 kg of potatoes, 2 kg of carrots, and 2 kg of onions.
The nutritious vegetables were given to the internally displaced (refugee) families just before the biggest celebrated holiday of the year, Nowruz. The families were thankful for the produce as they were able to use the produce to cook food for celebrations and picnics with their families.
Our partners are continuing to provide support to families in the region. These families are still unable to return home because of the ongoing conflict.
It is clear that they will need practical support for quite some time as well as on-going support to rebuild their lives and care for their children.
