Prevention of the spread of ebola and ensuring effective health care is given to homeless children in D.R.Congo in the light of the emerging ebola epidemic.
There is an outbreak of the Bundibugyo form of ebola, a rare and untreatable strain of the virus in the Ituri province of D.R.Congo. The health care system is under huge strain in this area. The World Health Organisation has classified it as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. There is distrust among local communities about the way in which the spread of ebola is managed. Recent cut backs in international aid has led to a slower response to this current outbreak.
Kimbilio is based in Lubumbashi approximately 1600 miles from Ituri province. The Government and health authorities are concerned about the way in which ebola has already spread. In order to prevent further spread of this virus it is essential that communities are prepared and working safely. The health and welfare of the Kimbilio children is our first priority and we aim to be prepared and in a position to provide effective hygiene and health care to homeless children we work with in DRC.
Being well prepared in training staff and providing hygienic conditions will reduce the loss of life and ensure that children's lives are kept safe. This will prevent fear, ensure families are reunited and strengthened. Our response will ensure that the spread of the virus is curtailed. We aim to strengthen societies through our ebola prevention response.
