The only thing holding Beirut together at the moment is the solidarity between people, in the total absence of the government. Although we are not a disaster relief team, we are, like many others, working directly on the ground to help those affected. Cleaning the glass and rubble, feeding people in the streets and trying to help families affected by providing them with the basics. We will also be performing in shelters for children, providing psychosocial support and relief.
Lebanon, already suffering from a major economic crisis, a pandemic, and an absent and corrupt government, witnessed a major explosion at its biggest port in Beirut on August 4. The lives lost, the damage caused and the sheer scale of the catastrophe we have witnessed is beyond imagination.
We are working, like many other groups and individuals, to provide direct relief on the ground to those affected. Cooking, clearing rubble and helping families suffering from what happened is all we can hope to do at the moment. The biggest resource we can offer is ourselves and whatever skills and capabilities we have.
We don't know what is in store for us today or tomorrow. The best we can hope to do is to is help anyone who needs it immediately.
