Dear Friends and Fellow Philanthropists,
In an attempt to keep you all informed on the progress of our cause we are once again faced with the harsh reality of day to day life in Greece. For us the problems have always been and are becoming all the more personal!!
Meeting one of the many young and bright students, unable to move to Athens because of their poor economic status, highlighted the problems our society is facing due to the unprecedented economic crisis.
Stella has been accepted to Athens Law School, an extremely difficult feat in itself,but, like so many other young people she does not have the means to find somewhere to live in Athens.Studying has been and still is her top priority however her motivation has dwindled due to the difficulties she faces on a daily basis.
Stella finds herself having to live on the outskirts of the Attika prefecture in Thrakomakedones with relatives that aren't very forthcoming as they too have difficulties covering their basic needs.In order to get to her lectures Stella travels at least 2hrs there and another 2hrs back which leaves her with very little time to apply herself to her studies, not to mention the growing feeling of futility as she sees her dream for a better future slipping away from her.
Thankfully due to your support and that of our many beneficiaries we have some good news for Stella and for so many other young students in the same predicament.
Over the Christmas season our Charity "Kid & Family" is trying to organise fundraising events in public spaces as well as a high profile art auction which we hope will help raise funds needed to proceed with the renovation of a building in the heart of Athens. Getting started is our top prioriy and with the help of our tireless volunteers we are prepared to do all that is humanly possible to get the job done as soon as possible!! Time is of essence because most first year students have already missed the first semester. Of course we need ALL the help we can get! All donations however small will be a welcome boost toward our goal. Your support will serve to strenghthen our resolve and add to the momentum of this cause.
Please join us in this endeavour in the hope that those students, who haven't been able to come to Athens as well as those experiencing similar obstacles as Stella is, will be able to have a decent and safe place to stay in order to continue with their studies.
Stella and so many just like her have every reason to start believing in the Christmas Spirit and who knows Santa Claus might bring them a much deserved solution!
