IDP family receiving the New Year gift
IDP family receiving the New Year gift

Hello, dear friends. We are happy to share about our activities for the last three months.

Thanks to your support we could organize few different programs to make joyful Christmas and New Year celebrations for our beneficiaries. One of the programs was the online Handmade Charity Fair, where our beneficiaries also could exhibit their crafts and raise funds to support their families. We prepared New Year gifts for each child.

One of such children was 16-years old Julia who moved out from Donbas six years ago together with her mother Svitlana. First, they lived free of charge in a factory dispensary, but then they had to move out and stay in a rented apartment without furniture or a bed. In the beginning, they had to sleep on the floor, putting bags of clothes under their heads. Both mother and daughter have health problems: Svitlana needs surgery, Julia has a chronic heart condition. Women’s Federation has included their family in the support group, providing material and psychological assistance.

For Saint Nicholas Day that is celebrated in Ukraine on December 19, the Women’s Federation for World Peace organized the festive event for IDP kids with gifts, honey gingerbread, and a fun contest program.

Another Saint Nicholas Day for families with many children and IDP families went with the support of the Goloseevsk regional administration in Kyiv. Children and parents enjoyed the festive program and gifts very much.

We also provided financial aid for renovating the rehabilitation center in the village of Volodarka, Kyiv oblast. The Centre is planned to host for rehabilitation and recreation of IDP children, as well as children whose parents died in the war.

Thank you for making such a happy start of the year possible! We wish all of you a wonderful year of 2021!

Emotional Literacy workshop with Red Cross
Emotional Literacy workshop with Red Cross

Our dearest friends, we want to share with you about our latest work in helping Internally Displaced People from the Eastern Ukraine.

Together with the regional Red Cross Society in Kyiv, Women’s Federation continues special monthly workshops for those who need additional psychological assistance. The project is called "Social adaptation of demobilized soldiers and their families, internally displaced people from the conflict zone". It has themematic organized activities for group work and individual classes with qualified psychologists. One of such workshops for 52 families was held on August 4 under the title "Emotional Literacy".

On August 11 WFWP-Ukraine became a partner of the 5th Charity Festival "Children of God". We invited our beneficiaries to this holiday of childhood and kindness. Except our dear IDPs there were also large families and families in need. About 1000 children took part in the festival that included a buffet and a festive concert with the participation of Ukrainian pop stars and talented children from all over Ukraine.

As many of our beneficiaries faced serious difficulties during the quarantine, we kept giving them financial and in-kind help.

For example, warm and casual clothes, shoes and toys were given to Viktoria, whose husband is fighting in ATO zone and whose son has autism.

Another family that received material, psychological and legal assistanceis is Volodymyr, Tetiana and their disabled adult son. When they were able to travel to Luhansk in 2018 for the first time after the 2014 bombing, they discovered seven craters from military explosions in their home. Going through many difficulties they strongly dream of going home and repairing the house.

There were two other families from Slovyansk, Donetsk region who stay there and who received clothes and shoes by post.

Thank you, our dear friends, for making all this work possible!

Psychological WS with the Red Cross
Psychological WS with the Red Cross

Our dear friends, despite the coronavirus outbreak, we try as much as we can to keep our work with the Ukrainian IDPs.

Many of our beneficiaries faced serious difficulties during the quarantine. Therefore we refocused our activity mainly on financial support, at the same time keeping our integration work online.

Following the safety rules, Women’s Federation for World Peace in Ukraine organized distributing food packages and hot lunches for those in need. With our support, 300 families with many children, including IDP families, could undergo a free medical examination.

Together with the Family Center “Native Nyvky” our organization gave new life to the project “Boutique of good things”, implemented by our partners. We assisted to locate boutique in a certain place, collected good second-hand clothes, and other useful things, as well as made bridges between donors and beneficiaries. The boutique is accepting clothes, shoes, appliances, furniture, products from everyone, who wants to help IDPs and other people in need.

As a part of our online integration work, on June 13, together with the regional Red Cross Society, we held a psychological workshop for IPD families. The workshop included different sessions, together with discussions and individual counseling with professional psychologists. We also conducted a survey and formed the lists for material assistance.

Celebrating World Refugee Day on June 20, we organized an online conference to hear the voices of our IDP beneficiaries and those who are not indifferent to their problems. Our long-time friends shared how they keep their lives and their activities under the current difficulties. One of them, active mother and volunteer Kateryna shared about her move from Donetsk with her two children and her husband. She is currently on maternity leave with her third child, but this does not prevent her from actively volunteering. Our dear partner since 2015, Humanitarian HQ of the NGO "All-Ukrainian Organization for Internally Displaced People", gave a report on their activity. Women tried to encourage each other and expressed their wish to keep cooperating and building a community where everyone can join and share useful information.

Thank you, our dearest friends, for making all this work possible!

Our dear friends, just to share with you some events we managed to do before coronavirus outbreak.

On March 1, 2020, we celebrated Maslenitsa on Dolobetsky Island in the Hydropark together with many of our beneficiaries: families with many children, family type orphanages and IDPs. The participants of the holiday had a rich entertainment program: games with children, a rope park, sports and ethnographic sites, creative workshops, a campfire, delicious pancakes, and tea. We had set up a small museum of Ukrainian traditional scarves with a photo zone, where everyone could take a photo to commemorate the first day of spring. This family holiday was a real success!

On March 4, 2020, Women’s Federation for World Peace, in cooperation with the Kyiv City administration, organized a charity event for mothers with many children, including IDP mothers. This cultural and arts campaign was dated to the International Women's Day and was titled "I am a woman. I am just a WOMAN". Around 300 mothers with 3 to 16 children gathered in the column hall of the Kyiv City administration. Greetings, gifts, dancing, cakes and lots of interesting communication were expecting the holiday participants. Everyone who wished also could participate in a master class on tying a women’s scarf, which was held by the collector of Ukrainian traditional scarfs and towels Mrs. Lyudmila.

We wish health to all of you, our dear friends! Thank you for all your help to the internally displaced families!

Christmas Gingerbread Workshop
Christmas Gingerbread Workshop

Dear friends, we are glad to share some news from our project for January and February 2020.

The beginning of the year was full of New Year and Christmas mood. And especially as we celebrate Orthodox Christmas in Ukraine on January 7, we prepared special programs for our beneficiaries.

Eight IDP families became participants of the Christmas workshop. Parents had an integration meeting with the specialists, while children were learning to make delicious gingerbread cookies with their own hands. Then together they were making masterpieces out of honey gingerbread cookies and colorful glaze.

The day after, together with the National Kyiv-Pechersk Historical and Cultural Reserve, we prepared spiritual and cultural program for families from vulnerable categories, like IDPs and large families. The event was called "Angel’s Christmas Tree" and was attended by 70 children, together with their parents. After a guided tour around the reserve, parents could take part in a prayer service at the Cathedral. Everyone could also go up to the Great Lavra Bell Tower and participate in a festive concert with Christmas carols, competitions and gifts. After a delicious lunch, everyone was invited to visit the Lavra Caves - national historic sites.

Together with our long-term partner, “Mothers of peace” union, we organized few integration actions at schools where IDP children study. With patriotism and peace as main topics, we talked about love to the nation and to the world that can help to overcome any difficulties and bring us all to peace. Colorful concerts, children's drawings exhibitions, meetings with interesting people beautifully complemented the programs.

Keeping individual integration work with our beneficiaries, our specialists and volunteers were visiting IDP families, trying to answer their needs. One of such families, who is under our supervision from the very beginning, is Sergey and Lyubov with their wonderful four sons. Sergey and Lyubov, who changed already three rented apartments and three schools for their kids, have been facing many challenges. Sometimes, as Lyubov shared, they think they can’t go on. But their love and enthusiasm give them power to overcome everything. We keep visiting their humble home, communicating and giving financial help.

We wish you, our dear friends, good coming spring! Thank you for all your support and genuine concern for the internally displaced families!
