This project will create a safe and therapeutic environment for the rehabilitation of 600 adult and child victims of sex trafficking rescued from various places of commercial sexual exploitation in India. It aims to provide psychological support through trauma care, counselling and specialised psychiatric support; educational/vocational/life-skill support and restoration of civic identity which will ensure long-term social reintegration of survivors.
Sex trafficking is India in rampant. It is estimated that 2-3 million women and children are trafficked & approximately 45% are children. Lack of protective services has added to the crises with victims being re-trafficked and criminal syndicate becoming more confident of their operations as victims seldom testify in the court. This project will support 600 sex trafficked victim by providing them holistic rehabilitation which will prevent re-trafficking & support better conviction.
When victims are provided all support such as a safe home away from threatening influences, health/medical care, de-addiction support, trauma care & counselling, life-skill training, education/vocational support and access to all government support the chances that the victim will be rehabilitated and will live with dignity in the society is very high.Additionally she gains confidence to support the criminal justice system and is motivated to testify for she is assured of 100% support..
Every year 600 victims will be rehabilitated this will considerably reduce re-trafficking and with victims ready to testify there will be better conviction rates which will increase deterrence. Protection of victims is critical for both prevention of trafficking and disabling the criminal networks that engage in this low investment high profit organised crime. Sustained such efforts will end sex trafficking in this region.
