A Roof for Magaya School Kids - After a Storm

Mrs Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda, RMT Founder and Chairperson made a special visit to Magaya Primary school on 4th of December 2012, where she met with the school administration, the School Development Committee and the students. This visit's main objective was for Ms Gumbonzvanda to share the Minerva Award with Magaya primary school community, as her community which laid the foundation for her life; and secondly to offer solidarity and support with the on-going construction and renovation project.

Ms Wachipa, the school head for Magaya school and Ms Patricia Dzotso the Vice Chair of the SDC recieved the RMT delegation which included Board member Mrs Hilda Chitsanzara; Kudakwashe Dizha, the coordinator and other staff and volunteers. The team held a tour of the school and observed the tremendous effort already made by the community, and the new toilets that have just been completed..

Mrs Gumbonzvanda expressed her appreciation to the Asutralian Government who had donated the building materials for a school block; as well as the Magaya Old Students Association (MOSA) for reaching out to former students and others for support. "I am make this special appeal especially this festive season, for us to have a roof for our school children. The rains are here and we all have to do all we can to run the last mile. This is a call to all, the world over to join hands with us in reaching our goal". Ms Gumbonzvanda serves as the Patron of Magaya Old Students Association.

Magaya primary school has an enrolment of around 400 students, mostly drawn from rural and resource poor communities. Rozaria Memorial Trust has been working and supporting programmes at the schools since its founding in 2006, and also also focused on access to education and treatment for children living with HIV.
