On June 18, 2024, a training session on pond preparation, rice-fish farming, and fertilization was held at the village hall of Kouk Ruessei Khang Chueng village in Siem Reap province. Facilitated by Chhean Vibol, a Field Facilitator of the TCO, the training was attended by 14 new beneficiaries, including 4 women, from three villages in Danrun commune.
Key Takeaways:
Following the training, participants demonstrated a clear understanding of:
Proper pond preparation methods based on technical specifications.
The structure and function of the rice-fish farming system.
Differences between fish species used in rice-fish farming.
Selection criteria and handling techniques for fingerlings during transport.
Appropriate feeding strategies for fish within the rice-fish farming system.
Pilot Experiments for Small-Scale Fingerling Production
A pilot project conducted in June 2024 involving six farmers from Siem Reap and Kampong Thom provinces explored the potential of small-scale fingerling production. Results were mixed, with three farmers not generating income during the reporting period.
The pilot project highlighted both challenges and opportunities in fingerling production, underscoring the need for further research to refine production methods and ensure sustainability.
