Regenerating Rainforests in Madagascar

Our team is prepared every day to work alongside rainforest communities, and it is because of your kindness that we can do so. We are deeply grateful for your belief in our collective mission - planetary health - and we’re excited to share the climate solutions your support has made possible this past month.

In January 2025, as devastating fires broke out in the Monombo region, we immediately mobilized both fire monitoring and firefighting efforts. Fortunately, the fire monitoring activities planned by Forest Guardians and HIH Madagascar staff back in November 2024 proved invaluable in responding to this crisis. This led us to begin developing a community-designed fire management booklet, an essential guide that will benefit the Monombo communities for years to come. Amid both planned initiatives and emergency response efforts, HIH Madagascar staff remained committed to monthly meetings with Forest Guardians, ensuring we continue to address the needs of the rainforest and its dedicated protectors.

As we can agree, safeguarding existing forests goes hand in hand with investing in reforestation. This past month, HIH Madagascar continued monitoring active seedling nurseries and distributing essential materials for future ones. A new nursery was completed in the Karimbelo region, and after a rigorous selection process, nursery managers were hired to oversee its operations.
