The Refugees Women & Girls Livelihood Project will help train 50 groups of refugee women and girls in livelihood skills, each group comprising 50 women. Livelihood skills training will include, tailoring, weaving, art & crafts, shoe repair, vegetable production & selling etc. Many urban and camp-based refugees find themselves in desperate and dangerous situations. It is crucial that refugees in both urban areas and camps be to earn a living and sustain themselves and their families.
Women and Girls are typically hit the hardest by poverty and life in a refugee camp/setting. One of the biggest concerns regarding female refugees' health is their reproductive health. Women and Girls are less likely than refugee men and boys to have access to even the most fundamental of their rights. This includes their right to food, health care, shelter, nationality etc. This project will provide refugees Women & Girls with diversified livelihood options & income generating opportunities.
Based on past experience, the project will: - Reduce dependency on food aid for refugees & other communities by providing alternate means. - Increase the livelihood opportunities for refugee Women & Girls. - Advocate with the government of Uganda to allow engagement of refugees in income generation activities outside the camps. - Provide support for crop production, livestock, home gardens, small business establishment through community participation and se
Food security improved and number of people receiving food rations and dependence on food aid reduced. Level of self-reliance and livelihoods for vulnerable groups improved. Women's participation and leadership strengthened Natural resources and the environment better protected. Capacity for the planting agro forestry and sustainable use of natural resources increased.
