When refugees come to PRERNA for support, they often have very few resources, if any. Most have waited months or even years to be admitted into the U.S. Some have suffered great losses during their journey. Upon their arrival into the Bay Area, our volunteers ensure that our refugee clients are equipped with basic supplies in addition to a safe and secure place to live. When they transition from temporary to permanent housing, we arrange for furniture, food, cookware, clothing and other personal household items. Thanks to our partnership with moving companies and our dedicated supplies team, we are able to help the families begin acclimating to their new environment.
We raised over $300 to provide newly arrived refugee families with our starter kits. These kits include hygiene items, writing supplies, local maps, and snacks. They helped us start the process of rebuilding the lives of these refugee families in the U.S. We are incredibly grateful to our donors for providing the level of support they do. Without them, we could not accomplish the work that we do.
By empowering refugees to become active members of society who thrive in their new country, the benefit to our communities can be immense. Refugees who live here stimulate the economy as consumers, they work and they pay taxes. Their children receive a better education, become part of the future workforce and potential leaders of our country. We already see refugees paying it forward as those that PRERNA assisted previously are now helping new refugees who are arriving after them.
