Refugee Girls High School Scholarship Program

Girls are continuing to attend High School and appreciate the help being given to them. While I had included this in my year-end appeal, I would just like to add that it is our intention to grow this program. Right now, annual (final) examinations are just taking place in Pakistan. After the results are out, we will be in a position to know how many new girls would like to join this program to continue on to High School having finished 8th grade with Barakat.

Please see this letter from Samina, a current scholarship recepient: 

"My name is Samina. I am currently a student of Grade 10. I belong to Turkmen family. I graduated from Barakat Evening School two years ago. Education has completely changed my approach to life. I feel more respected, confident and honored. Now my family is also happy when I read, write and speak not just in Urdu but even in English. Barakat is really doing great job to help us.

My Barakat teachers and headmistress mean a lot to me as without their keen interest it was not possible for me to be where I am today. Whenever I get a chance in any family gathering, I promote Education to Afghan girls. Many many students, including boys and girls, have lightened (sic) their lives through Barakat schools, and I pray that this process never come to end. One girl who is educated can at least bring positive change to her family. She is going to be a good wife, mother.

I am very hopeful for many girls studying in government school after getting excellent education from Barakat Schools. My favourite subjects are English and Maths. Personally, I want to complete my Masters degree in English Literature and am willing to be a Professor of English in Government College Attock.
