In order to help Barakat school graduates, our Scholarship Program for High School Girls is working to provide financial backing as well as social support to girls. They in turn will serve as role-models to others in their own Afghan refugee community in Pakistan. The program serves not just to support financially, but also to encourage the girls and their family members with regard to continuing their education. Send these girls to High School. Give them a boost.
The problem of encouraging girls' families that high school is also important and relevant for their daughters. Refugee families from Afghanistan are willing to send their daughters to primary/elementary school but beyond that, their resistance grows as the grades increase. While the girls themselves are eager to continue their education, their dependence on their families can serve as a check.
Providing a scholarship to the girls is encouragement - both financial and social - to the parents to send their daughters/sisters to school. Their school costs are covered and the parents feel more validated in their decision to send their girls to high school.
It is our hope that these scholarship recepients will act as role-models for their fellow mates in school and in the community.
