In the past few months we have had a lot of interest from businesses and private individuals wanting to “give back” something to our Mother Earth by offsetting the GHG emissions they are responsible for by planting trees with LRFF.
This is great news because on a project like Reforesting the Deforestation one medium size business would be able to sponsor this project and offset a little less than 1000 metric tonnes of carbon emissions. At present we are working with a transportation service in the Los Angeles area wanting to do just this and offset 366 tons for their 2013 projected emissions. To do this we will combine three smaller projects that total a little over 9000 trees to offset the company’s emissions.
In this way the transportation company, or any company or private citizen, is supporting a forest to be planted and maintained for the next five years. After that the forest is working for their company, sequestering those same tons year after year. After the initial tree planting investment and five years have passed the company will only need to pay the current per ton, carbon market price annually to support the landowner via payments for environmental services for perpetual conservation.
We have received many generous donations so far to this project, many from the great employees of Hewlett Packard. Thank you all so much for your help and hopefully I’ll be able to report than a large business has decided to sponsor this exact project to have a perpetual, CO2 sequestering forest to offset, “give back”, what they are responsible for creating.
