Dear Friends,
We are happy to share with you that your support has made considerable contributions to help rural schools students. Over the last few months the project provided more 1000 note books to the rural children who had lost all their notebooks during the heavy rains in Tamil Nadu. Children in more than 15 schools benefitted by the efforts. Each student was given three to four notebooks based on the class they were studying.
Schools started Another 600+ children were provided health care check up after school started follwoing the rains in Tamil Nadu. Many of the children were having health problems, fevers, severe cold/ cough etc and were not able to attend school. Our project staff organized for health camps to be conducted in each of the primary, middle and high school, so that children can checked and proivded medicines they required. Many of the chilren were having skin problems
The project also supported to conduct after school tutiions and extra coaching in all the supported the schools. Starting in January, after the rains, the children were found to have considerable difficulty with their studies- the problems they had were memory problems, lack of attention, poor recall of lessons and some had completely forgotten the basics. So they have required considerable coaching. The project staff have been working with all the children after school every day, helping to get them back into shape, so that they can pass the upcoming exams.
Rural students also have challenge with getting adequate nutrition; during their exams all students need good nutriiton. so the project has been supporting this component by providing vegetables to the noon meal provided in the schools. Another support has been providing extra nutritious snack after school during the coaching classes. This is very beneficial to the students, and they are able to have sufficient energy for the long hours of studying from morning to evening. The project will continue to provide this till the completion of the exams in march/ April.
We thank all the well wishers for your support and we believe that all our rural students will successfully finish this school year.
thanks
Kalanjiyam team
