Reduce Learning Poverty in Nigerian GOVT Schools

A big part of the work we do at ACE Charity is finding ways to improve learning outcomes for learners in public primary schools in disadvantaged communities.These schools face prevailing problems such as; high level of learning poverty, overcrowded classrooms, lack of access to teaching aids, poor teacher quality and low number of teachers. 

To mitigate these problems, in May we initiated the ACE Radio School in Schools project with the goal of improving the quality of learning received by pupils in public primary schools, aiding teachers to teach in overcrowded classrooms and improving the quality of teaching of relevant subjects. 

In line with the literacy, numeracy and science topics to be taught for the school term, we started providing supplementary audio lessons which employ relevant pedagogy techniques played via a loudspeaker in the classrooms weekly for the pupils to listen and learn. 

So far, conducted surveys have shown that 100% of our learners enjoy listening to the audio lessons, feel that they understand their teachers better and have reported that their reading and maths ability have improved with 92% reporting that they've used the radio lesson content to answer questions in class. Some teachers have also communicated that the project has helped make their teaching easier, has helped them in managing large classrooms and they've observed improved pupil performance.
