Our Programs are Working Because of Donor Support!

By D Redeker | Founder and CEO

This spring we launched a new program, Axel's Helping Hand.  This program meets a need that no one else in Northern California is doing, helping heart transplant patients recover financially while they recover physically.

We believe that financial stability leads to family stability which inevitably leads to the stability of their precious donated heart.  If we believe this to be true, to ensure that the donated heart has the best chance at a long and healthy life within the recipient, we must look at the whole family.  We must work with the family to ensure that housing is maintained, car payments are up to date, food is on the table and that they have the ability to pay whatever their co-payment is for their medications.  Axel's Helping Hand does exactly that, working with each heart transplant family to help them regain their financial footing after potentially months away from work without an income caring for themselves or their child.

Just today, we helped a transplant family with a deposit on an apartment.  While their daughter was inpatient, they lost their home and have been struggling since then to find an apartment they could afford.  I'm thrilled to report that they will move into their new place next week. This is only possible because of donor support.

Our foundational program is our lodging program that helps heart transplant patients here in Northern California with their temporary recovery housing when their insurance doesn't cover it.  This cost alone can be financially crippling to a family already living paycheck to paycheck.  Our lodging program ensures that no financially challenged heart transplant patient needs to worry about how they will afford this temporary near hospital housing.  Just today, a heart transplant patient who lives far below the poverty line moved into this temporary housing, made possible through the support of our generous donors.

Heartfelt Help Foundation is still the only nonprofit in Northern California helping transplant patients and their families in this manner.  With your support we can continue and expand this important work.
