Heartfelt Help Foundation exists to serve and support heart transplant patients in Northern California with their medically required post-transplant recovery housing costs, where insurance doesn't, and personal resources are non-existent. This project will supply recovery housing to transplant patients and their families for the duration of their medically required stay.
Heart transplant patients rarely need their lifesaving transplant emergently. They have been sick a lot of their lives, and for pediatric patients, all of their lives. This leads to loss of income, early retirement due to disability and increased expenses associated with their treatment. Patients risk financial devastation, when faced with the additional costs like medically required, near hospital recovery housing. HHF steps in to bridge the gap & pay for their recovery housing.
Studies have shown that recovery happens best when it happens in a clean, safe space, with the people you love around you. Funds raised from this project will ensure that low income heart transplant patients and their families have equitable access to begin recovery in a space that is home-like which saves lives. Allowing patients to focus on recovery and not the potential of losing their home.
The long-term impact will be to change the trajectory of heart transplant patients who are from a lower socioeconomic status, improving recovery and allowing families to return home financially stable. This creates systemic change where a patient's zip code has no bearing on their long-term recovery and success post-transplant.
