No One Down Relief Organization (NODRO) will implement a 5-year national rehabilitation initiative to support 10,000 prisoners across federal and regional correctional facilities in Ethiopia, including Oromia, Amhara, Tigray, Afar, Somali, Addis Ababa, and SNNPR. The project will focus on: Psychological recovery and trauma healing programs. Educational and vocational skills training (carpentry, tailoring, ICT, metalwork). Health and hygiene improvement. Legal aid support for vulnerable
Pressing Issue and the Problem is: - Ethiopia's prisons face chronic challenges: Over 35% of inmates suffer untreated trauma (Federal Prison Commission, 2024). Many prisoners lack basic hygiene, clean water, and healthcare. Limited access to education and skills perpetuates poverty-driven crime. High reoffending rates due to lack of reintegration support. Children of incarcerated parents face emotional and economic hardship.
Over 5 years, NODRO will implement a holistic rehabilitation model that integrates recovery, skills, and reintegration: Provide trauma counseling, group therapy, and mental health support. Deliver vocational training: carpentry, tailoring, agriculture, ICT. Improve hygiene and sanitation: WASH kits, cleaning materials, water tanks. Strengthen prison libraries with educational books. Train prison officers on human rights and rehabilitation. Provide legal aid to vulnerable detainees.
10,000 prisoners receive rehabilitation and recovery support. National reoffending rates reduced by 40%. Prisoners gain skills for employment and self-reliance. Stronger families and safer communities. A replicable model for rehabilitation across Ethiopia.
