Warm greetings from No One Down Relief Organization (NODRO).

We are pleased to present our latest progress report for the project "Recovery & Reintegration for Prisoners in Ethiopia." Through this initiative, NODRO continues to support formerly incarcerated individuals and prisoners preparing for release by promoting rehabilitation, psychosocial recovery, skills development, livelihood opportunities, and successful reintegration into their families and communities.

The project seeks to reduce recidivism, improve economic self-reliance, and strengthen community acceptance by equipping beneficiaries with the knowledge, skills, and support needed to rebuild their lives with dignity.

During this reporting period, encouraging progress has been made toward improving the well-being and future prospects of former prisoners and their families.

Project Overview

The Recovery & Reintegration for Prisoners in Ethiopia project aims to promote rehabilitation and social inclusion through comprehensive reintegration support.

The project focuses on:

• Psychosocial counseling and emotional recovery
• Vocational and life skills training
• Livelihood and income-generating opportunities
• Family reunification and community reintegration
• Legal awareness and rights education
• Community sensitization to reduce stigma
• Referral and follow-up support services

Key Challenges Addressed

The project addresses several barriers faced by formerly incarcerated individuals, including:

• Social stigma and discrimination
• Limited employment opportunities
• Psychological trauma and emotional distress
• Family separation and weakened social support
• Poverty and economic instability
• Limited access to vocational training and rehabilitation services
• Increased risk of reoffending due to unemployment and exclusion

Key Achievements (April – July 2026)

During this reporting period, the project achieved the following:

• Supported 260 prisoners and formerly incarcerated individuals through rehabilitation and reintegration services.
• Provided 220 beneficiaries with psychosocial counseling and mental health support.
• Trained 180 participants in vocational skills, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy.
• Assisted 125 beneficiaries to establish small income-generating activities or secure employment opportunities.
• Conducted 15 community awareness sessions promoting acceptance, rehabilitation, and social inclusion.
• Reached more than 3,200 community members through awareness campaigns addressing stigma and successful reintegration.
• Strengthened coordination with correctional institutions, justice offices, local government agencies, and community organizations.

One beneficiary who recently completed vocational training shared:

Challenges Encountered

Despite positive progress, several challenges remain:

• Limited funding restricts livelihood support for all eligible beneficiaries.
• Some beneficiaries require long-term psychosocial support.
• Employment opportunities remain limited in several target communities.

Response Measures

To address these challenges, NODRO has:

• Strengthened family mediation and reintegration support.
• Enhanced entrepreneurship training and small business mentoring.
• Continued community awareness campaigns promoting acceptance and second chances.

Monitoring & Accountability

NODRO maintains strong monitoring and accountability systems through:

• Regular beneficiary follow-up visits.
• Individual rehabilitation and reintegration plans.
• Livelihood and employment tracking.
• Psychosocial well-being assessments.
• Community feedback and complaint response mechanisms.
• Periodic monitoring and evaluation of project outcomes.

Current Key Performance Indicators

• 260 beneficiaries received rehabilitation and reintegration support.
• 220 participants accessed psychosocial counseling services.

What's Next? (August – November 2026)

During the next implementation phase, NODRO plans to:

• Strengthen employment placement and entrepreneurship support.
• Expand psychosocial counseling and family reunification services.
• Promote community dialogue to reduce stigma and discrimination.
• Strengthen post-reintegration mentoring and follow-up support.
