Community Youth Leaders graduate training

By M. Cintron and A. Lopez | Incubator Staff

100% of the young Project Tiboco participants (11) completed the Practicum Phase of their Community Leadership Training. This project was funded by a Global Giving Grant and additional donations from a Crowd Funding strategy. Six (6) nonprofit community based organizations from six municipalities received a total of 440 service hours for an estimate value of approximately $3,500.

In July we held a closing ceremony for the participants. At a Closing Ceremony the participants received certificates and a title in the Taino tradition. Tiboco is Taino for incubator and the title they were invested with is Inrirí: Taino for woodpecker. The idea for the Tiboco project originated from the volunteer service of one of the participants in the reconstruction of houses destroyed by Hurricane María in his community . Their testimonies reflect the projects’ success in fostering their interest and understanding of their communities needs and their willingness to contribute effectively. Some of the participants have pledged to continue linked to these organizations.

We completed a final project evaluation of the Training. The recommendations will be used to replicate the Training Module. The Project was effective directing the participants interest to acquire skills to better serve their communities. A new Leadership Training Module is being planned and projected to start January 2020 as we raise its funding.

*Testimony: “ “For me, to be juvenile community leaders is the possibility of being available and prepared to contribute to the welfare of our communities   in special situations, motivating others, gathering information for planning and mobilizing the community action towards the common good”.
