This project will build a multi-functional Animal Shelter in south-east of Latvia, providing veterinary care and shelter to abandoned dogs and cats, place for educational seminars and workshops regarding animal welfare, place where neutering and microchiping campaigns will be carried out.
Daugavpils is 2nd largest City in Latvia and there is just one local pound and no animal or wildlife rescue centers. High number of animals are unnecessarily put to sleep. There are no Animal Welfare Organizations in our county that work on education and involve youth in animal welfare. Very little Trap Neuter Release projects are carried out. This project will affect welfare of stray/feral animals and all people of our county. It will also guarantee regular implementation of neutering programs.
After animal shelter's reconstruction we will have Vet cabinet where neutering can be carried out, better facilities for taking care of shelter animals, high standard of health & safety in the building for employees and animals, possibility to do more shelter education tours and hands on experience for children from schools and orphanages in better conditions, provide high standard facilities for children with special needs and for elderly people who are interested in volunteering in our rescue.
After reconstruction, Animal Shelter 'Second Home' will offer better care for shelter animals, will carry out neutering programs which will reduce feral and unwanted animals reproduction and, as a result, prevent their suffering and cruelty cases. Will work on educating youth on Animal Welfare which will make them responsible owners in the future. Rescue will provide hands on experience in better conditions which will attract more volunteers who will help with rescue's development.
