Valparaiso report

By Angela Gaete | Financing

In the wake of the devastating fires that ravaged the Valparaíso region, our Foundation has been working tirelessly to provide immediate relief and long-term recovery for affected communities. From the very first hours after the emergency was declared, our team, supported by over 500 volunteers, has been actively present in the most impacted areas, providing essential assistance and working on the ground to rebuild homes and restore lives.

Immediate Response:

Within 12 hours of the emergency declaration, our emergency team was deployed to assess the situation. By 24 hours, we began distributing initial relief, including debris removal kits, camping kits, hygiene products, and hydration supplies. Our first priority was to address the immediate needs of the families and individuals affected, helping them cope with the loss of homes and basic necessities.

We also distributed Reconstruction Cards, which provide financial support to families for purchasing materials to begin rebuilding their homes. In the early stages of our response, we prioritized urgent cases and validated the most pressing needs of the communities.

Key Actions Taken:

Since the onset of the emergency, we have managed over 26 distinct recovery projects across several critical areas, including:Housing Reconstruction: Significant resources have been allocated to the reconstruction of homes, with a focus on the most affected areas such as Villa Canal Beagle, the National Botanical Garden, and various other neighborhoods in Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, Quilpué, and nearby regions.

Education Support: We have initiated multiple projects to support the reactivation of education, including the reconstruction of schools like Villa Independencia and the installation of modular classrooms. Additionally, we’ve supported learning recovery programs and provided psychological support services to students and teachers.

Health and Well-being: Our Foundation has provided emergency medical care through temporary clinics and supported existing health centers, including the COSAM Belloto Sur clinic in Quilpué. We’ve also coordinated the distribution of medical supplies and first aid kits.

Social and Economic Support: Our entrepreneurship initiatives have been crucial for supporting local businesses that were affected by the fires. We’ve provided financial aid, materials, and equipment to over 500 entrepreneurs, helping them restart their businesses. We’ve also established social centers to support community rebuilding efforts.

Donations in Kind:

In addition to financial contributions, the Foundation has received generous donations of essential goods, such as water, food, hygiene items, and shelter materials.

Long-Term Commitments:

Although significant progress has been made, we are aware that the work is far from over. We are committed to continuing the rebuilding efforts in the months ahead, with ongoing projects aimed at restoring homes, schools, and critical infrastructure. Our focus remains on providing sustainable solutions that empower the affected communities, ensuring they have the resources and support they need to recover and thrive.

We will continue working closely with local authorities, volunteers, donors, and partner organizations to ensure that the rebuilding of Valparaíso and its surrounding areas is comprehensive, inclusive, and long-lasting.

We want to express our deepest gratitude to all the donors, volunteers, and partners who have supported our efforts. Your generosity and commitment have been essential in helping us provide immediate relief and are allowing us to continue our recovery work in the coming months. Together, we are not only rebuilding homes but also restoring hope and resilience in Valparaíso.

Thank you for your unwavering support.
