Poverty in many cases drive adolescent girls to trade sex in exchange of life essentials, leading to among other things unwanted pregnancies and early parenthood. This project is seeking to support 20 teenage mothers in Kibera Slums of Nairobi, Kenya to rebuild their lives through vocational training. The girls will be take through an incubation to unlock their potential, then facilitate them to go back to school or vocational training. A daycare for the babies will also be set
Roughly 13,000 young girls drop out of school each year to have children, the Kenya National Council for Population and Development reports. Through the COVID-induced lockdowns, however, unintended teen pregnancies skyrocketed. Some have gone so far as to call the phenomenon a shadow pandemic. This massive surge in teen pregnancies can be explained by a number of factors, but most outrageous perhaps are 3elements: availability of showers, access to productive facilities, & lack of sanitary pads
Many teenage mothers are limited by their kids from rebuilding their lives ending up in marriage and eventually breakups, because they cannot take care of their children and have nowhere to live. Polycom plan is to give back hope to the already identified teen mum and help them rebuild their lives, by providing for them trainings while taking care of their children. After equipping them with skills they will be given business start ups so they can be self reliant.
* Children born to teenage mothers will enjoy love and care from their mothers, the number of abandoned and streetchildren will reduce, * Teenage mothers will be skilled and self reliant leading their lives with choices and individually. * More actors will come out to support teenage mothers contributing to women economic empowerment
