By Emily Davenport | Project Leader
This is the newest member of the REBUILD team, Zaka.
Born in Nigeria, he has studied the art of shoemaking in Italy and New York and has owned his own business in Port-au-Prince for 40 years! Zaka has come on board to develop the latest line of REBUILD globally tire sandals sandals, and he has brought some wonderful improvements. Always there with an encouraging laugh, Zaka has worked with fellow artisans to enhance sandal soles, arch support and strap placement patterns. His words of wisdom have actually allowed the shop to increase production—which means we can make and sell even more amazing sandals!
Zaka is a wonderful teacher and his guidance is empowering and uplifting to the entire RG staff. The spirit of progress inspired by Zaka is infectious at the REBUILD shop, “I am glad for all of the changes, now the sandals are better. I hope we continue to improve our sandals,” says RG artisan and mother, Jesselie.
We are so grateful for the love shown from all of our supporters who make it possible to continuing employing dedicated people like Zaka and Jesselie. To get your hands on the latest and greatest REBUILD sandals check out our store, and to hear even more success stories about social enterprise in Haiti like us on Facebook.
With love,
