The horrendous flooding that was caused by the continuous heavy rain in southern Nepal has taken the life of 74 adults and children, displaced 5,000 families and severely affected 5 million people. The families have lost their home, belongings and livelihoods. We aim to rebuild the home and livelihoods of the 100 families through this project.
One week of continuous heavy rain brought horrendous floods in the southern Nepal. The rivers overflowed, embankments were destroyed on the 12th of August 2017. The most recent record shows 74 adults and children found dead, 5000 homes completely swept out and 5 million people are severely affected by the floods. Many people are addressing the immediate needs but that will not put them back on their feet. The families who have lost their home are poor because their home is not built properly.
Through the project, we will rebuild the home and livelihoods of 100 flood victim's families. We will buy everything that is necessary to rebuild a safe home and to create a sustainable livelihood for them. This includes, bricks, cement, cement pillar, bamboos, tin roof, seeds, a cow, a goat and some cash. We will also repair/rebuild a toilet and water pump.
Having a safe home to sleep and something to rebuild a livelihood on will not just stop them falling in a greater poverty, it will lead them out of poverty. The families will be better prepared for the future flooding and earthquake. We will also persuade the families to send their children school regularly for a brighter future.
