As we approach the one year anniversary of Hurricane Florence wrecking its devastation on the Carolinas, most of us think the disaster is all “cleaned up” and life is back to normal for the victims. For the poor, not so fast—they are the hardest hit and the last to recover. For many of them, recovery is still a distant vision.
By now we’ve all seen the pictures of the completely gutted, unlivable home. That’s the worst case, but now most victims are “camping out” in their gutted home--kitchen sinks resting on sawhorses, exposed wiring, trip and fall hazards galore for the elderly, etc. And they completely lack the wherewithal to rebuild themselves. They’re barely able to afford the basics—food, medicine, utilities, etc.
But thanks to a generous donation from GlobalGiving in March 2019, Fuller Center Disaster ReBuilders has completely restored eight families—completing the journey from despair to hopefulness to celebration as they move back into their fully restored homes. And, with the continued support of GlobalGiving, we’ll restore another eight deserving families before the Florence anniversary.
But we can’t rebuild these homes and restore these eight families without you—we need your donations and we you to volunteer. Volunteer teams are the secret to leveraging your donation by reducing the cost of rebuilding by 50 percent. Come help!
