Namaste friends!
As One Heart World-Wide starts off 2016, we would like to take this moment to not only thank you, but also update you on the work we have accomplished so far. Your support and generous donations make it possible for us to continue to help with the rebuilding process, allowing us to restore healthcare to countless mothers and babies in Nepal.
One Heart World-Wide has been on the ground since day 1 of the earthquake, delivering essential medical supplies and installing fully-furnished, equipped and staffed birthing tents for deliveries in the two districts of Dhading and Sindhupalchok. In Dhading, 65% of the existing health facilities were completely destrowyed and 25% sustained partial damage after the earthquakes. In Sindhupalchok, 75% of the existing health facilities were completely destroyed and 15% had sustained partial damage. Post-earthquake, One Heart World-Wide has:
Jalkini health post in Sindhupalchok was one of the health posts that was completely damaged by the first earthquake to hit Nepal. Pre-earthquake, Jalkini had served as a facility that provided essential health care for the local community. Seeing the damage done to this health post, OHW initiated the construction of a semi-permanent building with minimal cost, using only local resources. The health post was then build with the help of the local people using bamboo, a material that is hypothesized to be earthquake proof. The healthpost was recently completed and benefits individuals from three different communities. It provides a safe space to deliver babies in sanitary conditions with skilled birth attendants. The Jalkini health post will serve as a model for health posts that will be replicated in other affected areas.
It is no surprise that rebuilding after the earthquakes is a continuous process that will take several years and lots of resources. We at One Heart World-Wide are full of gratitude for your continued support throughout this process and look forward to updating you with many more success stories similar to Jalkini health post.
