Rebuilding More Than Classrooms: Restoring Hope

For children in Syria, a school is more than walls, desks, and classrooms. It is a place where routines return, friendships grow, and children begin to imagine a future beyond years of conflict and disruption.

Through our Rebuild Hope in Syria: Reopening Doors to Learning project, Salam Humanitarian Foundation (SHF) is working to restore the Martyr Adel Al-Khaled School and help create a safe and welcoming learning environment for children.

Years of conflict have left many educational facilities damaged and unable to provide appropriate learning conditions. Behind every damaged classroom is a child whose education has been interrupted and a family hoping for a return to stability.

Our vision for this project goes beyond repairing a building. Restoring the school means helping reopen a pathway to learning, safety, and hope. Every repaired space can become a place where a teacher shares knowledge, a child discovers a new idea, and a community reconnects around education.

As we continue working toward the rehabilitation of the school, our team remains focused on creating an environment that is safe, functional, and supportive of children's learning. We recognize that rebuilding educational infrastructure requires resources, careful planning, and continued community engagement.

The need remains urgent. Children cannot recover lost years of education without safe spaces to learn. Families and communities need schools that can once again become part of daily life and a foundation for the future.

Our next step is to continue mobilizing the support needed to advance the rehabilitation of the school and bring it closer to reopening its doors to children.
